Senior PTA

What we do

The Parent Teacher Association of St Catherine’s Senior School, the PTA, is composed of parents and teachers who volunteer their time and energy to provide the social link between the school and parents. The PTA aim to put on a range of events throughout the year that will appeal to many across all year groups. This ensures that parents are able to meet others both within their daughter’s year and also across the whole school, thus promoting a sense of community.

In addition to the social side, the PTA uses surplus funds from events to provide the Annual PTA Lecture and support School fundraising initiatives.  In the recent years parents have enjoyed talks by Dr JoAnn Deak on the development of a child's brain, UCL Professor Sarah-Jayne Blackemore on the workings of the adolescent brain and last year, Dick Moore, who spoke on adolescent mental health and resilience.  Last year surplus funds were used to buy a range of items for the girls benefit that fell outside the scope of the school fees.  And at the last Committee Meeting on 20 September the PTA discussed and agreed to provide funds to digitise some of the schools most precious archive material.

Finally the PTA Second Hand Uniform shop provides an invaluable service to parents in both the Prep and Senior School and generates considerable funds for the PTA.

PTA Representatives

Every parent and teacher is invited to be a member of the PTA and a voluntary annual subscription is collected along with the school fees each year. The committee is composed of around 20 parents and teachers across the school, voted in each year at the AGM. Being on the committee really is a fun and rewarding way to meet other parents and be more actively involved in school life.

Second Hand Uniform Shop

The Second Hand Uniform Shop generates additional funds for the PTA from the sale of uniform. This is run by a dedicated team of parents and provides an invaluable service to many.

The Second Hand Shop also provide a new service - the PTA Online Shop is a platform which allows current and former families at St. Catherine's to trade in non-uniform items such as musical, equestrian, ski wear, D of E, Sports Sundries, and wanted items.

Please visit the Community section for contact details and the PTA Online shop link.

Fundraising Update

In the calendar year 2016, the Senior PTA was able to donate c.£7,500 to The Annual Fund to provide among other items: a springboard for the gym, posture chairs for musicians, an electronic machine to launch tennis balls to improve girls’ play and a Samba percussion kit.  PTA Awards are also made annually to 6th Form Students to assist with travel or vocational work during their summer holidays or gap years.  On 20 September 2016 the PTA donated £10,000 to fund the digitisation of some of the schools most precious archive material. We are very grateful to all parents for their continued support of our events allowing us to make such donations to the School.

For further information regarding the finances of the PTA, please refer to the attached 2016 Annual Report.
