Russell Baker Annual Report 2015-2016

Russell Baker House Captains -  Georgia & Annie (L6)

It has been a very successful year for Russell Baker and we would like to congratulate the whole house on all of the fantastic achievements, led by our wonderful house captains: Isabella and Phoebe .

We started the year off with House Drama where we performed a Whodunnit? murder-mystery. We were delighted to be placed 2nd and are excited to try and top this next year! The enthusiasm and commitment throughout the rehearsal process was outstanding from the whole house and we would like to thank them wholeheartedly. We would especially like to thank our hard working Drama Prefects, Hannah and Sasha, for their commitment and dedication in writing and directing such a great play. Russell Baker sportswomen excelled across the board this term, being placed 2nd in both Middle and Senior Lacrosse and winning silver in Senior Netball. Huge thanks must go to Alice, Lauren and Tilly as Games Prefects for their organisation and passion throughout. We could not have done it without them! The Middle School Games Captains, Georgia and Emma , must also be mentioned for leading a terrific year of sport. We finished off 2015 by winning the Merit Cup.

The Spring Term started with a fabulous outing to see Matilda in the West End. We all had a fantastic evening, accompanied by the annual coach sing-alongs! The highlight of the term was coming 3rd in House Gym. A particular mention must go to Chelsea , our soloist, for winning performer of the day. It was a great day with many triumphs as the house came together to put on quite a show. House Singing was lead fantastically by Eleanor who composed a mash up of We Are Golden, Fight Song and You’ve Got Something I Need, as well as conducting Don’t Sit Under the Apple Tree. Everyone in the house participated and thoroughly enjoyed themselves. We were also delighted to come 2nd in House Squash – a fantastic achievement. The L6 team organised Russell Baker’s biggest charity event, Spyring, once again. It was great fun and the whole school enjoyed playing. A total of £954.58 was raised for our chosen charities. Finally, the Merit Cup was once again awarded to RB.

During the Summer Term, Russell Baker enjoyed many successes on the sports pitches, including winning Middle School House Tennis, coming runners-up for the House Relay trophy, 3rd in the Golden Mile and placing 2nd overall in House Athletics. We are all incredibly proud of these results as well as the enthusiasm exhibited by all Russell Baker girls while competing in the Rounders and Tennis tournaments, as well as all of the Swimming and Athletics events. At the end of a busy term, we were delighted that Alice (U4) was awarded the Middle School Debating Award and that the house was presented with the Music Progress cup. Russell Baker ended the term by winning the Merit Cup yet again! To end such a successful term, we had a special House Picnic ‘vintage style’, complete with bunting, table cloths and a whole range of homemade dishes to surprise Mrs Hall and say goodbye to her.

It was a fantastic day where the whole house came together to appreciate Mrs Hall’s leadership, commitment and dedication to Russell Baker.

We have been so lucky to have had such a great Housemistress who has helped us so much and guided us through our years in such a special house. We will miss her greatly.

We would like to extend a “huge thank you” to the wonderful prefects who leave us this year. They led us brilliantly and we are looking forward to another successful year.  Thank you for their constant enthusiasm and house spirit. We wish them good luck with their exciting futures; they will be greatly missed. Another big “thank you” must go to the tutor team for all their dedication and hard work throughout the year.

In other news, we are delighted to welcome our new housemistress, Mrs McLean, to Russell Baker! As House Captains, we cannot wait for the year ahead and to create some amazing memories with you all.
