PROFESSIONAL NETWORKING

Creating career connections between alumnae and parents

We are committed to helping St Catherine’s alumnae in their career development and every year we support many of them by making connections to other alumnae and parents working across a plethora of professions.

The London Network – STEM event at Imperial - Friday 18 May 2017

Our second event in our London Network series saw nearly 50 alumnae, parents, pupils and staff gather at Imperial College to make professional connections and to provide invaluable advice and opportunities.  Specifically aimed at our younger alumnae, from graduation onwards, this evening focused on careers in STEM: Science, Technology and Engineering.  Association members in Medicine, Pharmacy, Life Sciences, Law, Consultancy, Human Resources and Media also joined us.

We were delighted to welcome Naomi Climer as our keynote speaker, the first female President of the Institution of Engineering and Technology.  She spoke about her early work experiences in a variety of jobs prior to her illustrious career in the broadcast and communications technology industry at the BBC, ITV and Sony.  Her advice resonated with so many in the room and was relevant for all the audience at each stage of their careers: ‘love what you do’, ‘look at the periphery, not just what’s straight ahead’ and don’t expect your career to be linear and perfectly strategized because, in doing so, you may miss some fabulous serendipitous opportunities!’  There was a wonderful buzz in the room and we’ve been told of many connections and offers that were made.  Please join LinkedIn to see new articles and opportunities.

Designed for you

We value your feedback in creating events that meet your needs.  After every event we send out a questionnaire and your responses will shape and inform future events.  Having evaluated feedback after our launch event we plan to offer sector specific evenings and general networking evenings with a focused theme.

Autumn 2017

Our next general event will be a panel discussion on gender issues in the work place: ‘Difference not Equality.’

Work opportunities

We encourage you to share these opportunities on our LinkedIn network and you are most welcome to bring literature to our events.  LinkedIn is the perfect vehicle for news about career openings and to engage in this exchange we would like to invite both parents and alumnae to join our network here
