The St Catherine’s Dance School
The St Catherine’s Dance School offers a wide variety of dance classes for girls of every age and ability. Whether students take dance classes as a way of letting off steam from the academic week, purely for enjoyment and a love of dance and movement, or because they wish to develop their interest in dance in view of taking their dance studies further; all types of students are welcome at the St Catherine’s dance school.
For students in PPIII upwards, throughout the Prep and Senior school, Dance is offered as an extra curricular activity. Classes run after school and on a Saturday morning and take place in our purpose built dance studio. All dance classes explore the element of creativity, and enjoyment and all lessons are taught in a fun and positive environment.
Ballet classes are offered, following the syllabus of the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD), and lessons in Tap and Modern, following the syllabus of the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dance (ISTD). Once students have reached the required techniques and levels they will be given the option of entering for examinations and class awards, gaining recognised dance qualifications should they wish to. Students may prefer to dance for sheer enjoyment, developing knowledge of dance technique and progressing through the grades without the stress of the exams, and this is also encouraged. The Dance school also offers fun, non-syllabus jazz classes where students will learn basic jazz dance technique, alongside upbeat routines and exciting choreography and is currently trialling the addition of a Performance Group class to the timetable. The Performance Group will study and learn a wide variety of dance styles and many different pieces of choreography. The idea is that the group will be called upon for performance opportunities in and around school, in various themes and events.
