Bronte: An ideal introduction to boarding

Bronte provides an especially warm and comforting environment for our U3 (Year 7). Situated on the first floor of the main School, Bronte has light and spacious dormitories for between four and seven girls. The girls change dormitories every half-term to extend their close friendship groups. There is a café-style kitchen for snacking within a games room with facilities that include pool and table tennis. In addition, there is a large comfortable common room with sofas where the girls can watch TV or a DVD, chat, read or just chill out. Prep. time is supervised by boarding staff in either the Library or the Computer Suite.

Bronte is the perfect springboard for every girl's journey through St Catherine's. It offers a structured and highly supportive introduction to living away from home that encourages the girls to explore their own talents and capabilities through a carefully planned programme of evening and weekend activities. Living so closely with each other teaches the girls self-reliance, mutual respect and compromise, leading to deep friendships that can last a lifetime.

Meet the Housemistress: Mrs Lucinda Norman

The housemistress of Bronte, Mrs Lucinda Norman, lives in a flat near the common room and the medical centre on the first floor, and is within easy reach for all boarders at any time, day and night. Also in residence is Mrs Norman’s husband, Robert, as well as their friendly and playful English springer spaniel, Ivy, who is always available for cuddles and a game of fetch.

Mrs Norman enjoys producing her own artwork in both paint and ceramic, going to galleries and the theatre, walks in the countryside with Mr Norman and Ivy, watching live music, going on city breaks, reading, cooking, dancing and singing.  She also enjoys time with close family and friends.

Mrs Norman is the Ceramics Teacher within the Art and Design Department and has previously worked as the Assistant Housemistress in the 6th Form.  Prior to her time at St. Catherine’s, Mrs Norman has worked as a full-time teacher of Fine Art and as a Resident Tutor in boarding at Haberdasher’s Monmouth School in Monmouthshire.  Mrs Norman completed her Art Foundation Diploma at Central Saint Martin’s School of Art, went on to complete her Ceramics and 3D Design degree at Bath Spa University and completed her PGCE at the University of Wales Institute Cardiff.
