Boarding Options

We aim to make boarding at St Catherine's as flexible as possible to meet the needs of individual girls and their families.

With our mix of girls from the UK and 11 other countries around the world, St Catherine's boarders are a truly international community.  They are a very supportive group of friends, looked after by a team of energetic and enthusiastic staff, most of whom are teachers.  The weekends are filled with activities which might include theatre trips locally or in the West End, city visits, museum visits, the London Boat Show, club rugby matches, Thorpe Park, paintballing, Guildford Race for Life, strawberry picking, go-karting, a day at Royal Ascot and charity events: a huge variety of activities, with something for everyone.  Unlike many other boarding schools, we only have one complusory exeat weekend in the school year which is the early May UK bank holiday.  This means that the need to rely on guardians to accommodate your daughter is greatly reduced.  Girls may go out at weekends to guardians if they wish, or stay with friends by arrangement between the Boarding Housemistresses and parents.

Weekly boarding is a popular option that offers weekdays at St Catherine’s and the weekends at home.  Weekly boarders can go home on Friday night and return on Sunday evening or Monday morning in time for registration (or breakfast if that suits better).  However, if girls want to stay on overnight during the weekend, perhaps for a match, a rehearsal, or a social with a boys’ school such as Eton or Winchester, they are most welcome.  To help busy working parents, we are developing a scheme to offer bus transport on Friday evenings after activities up the A3 to a destination in South West London.

We also offer boarding beds for daygirls, space permitting, when trips return late at night or depart in the early morning for example.  It can also be very helpful for parents if their daughters stay for the occasional night or more to accommodate family commitments such as work travel or short breaks. We cannot, however, book a regular slot each week.  To book your daughter in for a flexi-board please email

Meet the Head of Boarding - Mrs Lorinda Munro-Faure

I have been at St Catherine's for thirteen years and for the last six have been Head of Boarding. I understand the needs of teenagers very well, having raised three children of my own who are all now in their  twenties, and I find it particularly rewarding to see the boarders at St Catherine's grow and develop intellectually, creatively and socially.

Having graduated from Oxford University in Biology, I worked in the pharmaceutical industry for several years but, at the age of 40, I decided to retrain as a Science teacher and have never looked back.  Before becoming a member of the Senior Management Team, I was Head of Biology.  I have also been a School House Tutor, a Sixth Form tutor and I still mentor girls who aspire to study Science-based subjects at Oxford and Cambridge or who wish to apply for Medicine.

Living just off-site in a school house during term time, I also enjoy a 90-second door to door walking commute! Just as well, as I am also on permanent call during the school term. I have a high energy Labrador and love walking in the Surrey Hills.
