St Catherine’s Association Rock Choir & Band  2017

Well done everyone for the brilliant performance, after only four weeks of fun packed rehearsals, at the Rock & Jazz concert. “Best days of our lives” went really well and the audience not only heard the choir this year but certainly enjoyed the  performance! Thank you to Beth Bathhurst, Music Teacher, who led our rehearsals and conducted on the night, to Helene Favre-Bulle, our Musician in Residence, for accompanying during rehearsals and on the night and last, but not least, Ian Young, Head of Percussion and Contemporary Music, who led the band.

Davina Byrne (1995 & Current Staff) writes: The Rock Choir rehearsals have become one of the highlights of my year as I get to meet up with like-minded people who just love to sing.  It has been an excellent way to de-stress mid-week and sing as part of a great, vibrant group rather than singing to the radio by myself on the way to work.
Taking part in the Annual Jazz and Rock Concert, is nerve wracking but extremely satisfying. You get caught up in the electric atmosphere and come together as a group to perform some amazing songs.  New joiners are always welcome. Look out for Dawn’s email in April 2017.

St Catherine’s Association Rock Choir 2015

After its successful launch last year the Association Rock Choir and Jazz Band was led by Beth Bathurst and Kamila Radzvilaite. Ian Young was in charge of the rock band. After only four weeks of rehearsals this light-hearted choir and band, made up of 40 members, performed ‘Your love is lifting me higher’ by Jackie Wilson to open the second half of the Rock and Jazz Concert at school in May. There were a few wrong notes but the singers and band-members more than made up for these with their enthusiasm.

This light-hearted choir and band were launched on 26th February 2014 following on from the success of the Association Choir.  Nick Tudor, our musician in residence, led the choir and Ian Young,  Head of Percussion and Contemporary Music, was in charge of the rock band which accompanied them. After only eight weeks of rehearsals the choir and band, made up of 46 members, gave two performances of Living on a Prayer by Bon Jovi.  They opened the Bramley Village Fete on 17th May and opened the second half of the Rock and Jazz concert at school on 23rd May. There were a few wrong notes but the singers and band-members more than made up for these with their enthusiasm.  It was such a great success that we hope to repeat the experience again next year.
